Forceps Delivery

A forceps is a metal tool that is used in the final stage of labour when no progress is seen, it helps the baby to show the way out of the vagina. Pregnancies never go as planned, our doctors and staff are trained in this field which allows them to make quick decisions that lower risk to both mother and baby and to avoid c-section surgery.

WHO SHOULD GO FOR IT?

This assisted technique of delivery is used when:-

    • Mother suffers from high blood pressure, the doctor advises her not to push.
    • The baby is not in a suitable position for delivery
    • Delivery is premature, it helps in protecting the baby's head.
    • The mother is tired and exhausted from pushing and can not push the baby out.
    • Change in the baby's heart rate can be seen on the monitor then quick delivery is required.

  • PROCEDURE
    • The forceps are used in the final stage when the tool is inserted in the vagina during the rest time between the push. The forceps are placed on either side of the head of the baby carefully. Both parts of the tool secure the baby's head and if the baby's head is facing upward then the doctor uses forceps to turn the baby’s head during contraction. As the labour progress in the next contraction, the doctor guides the baby’s head to the birth canal with the help of forceps, and delivery is done.
  • SUCCESS RATE
    • Using forceps delivery is very uncommon. Our doctor and staff are trained and experienced in using the tool forceps without any complications. We ensure the shortest hospital stay and fastest recovery.

COMPLICATIONS

  • The procedure of forceps delivery has certain risks:-

    • Causes skull fractures as the baby's head is soft.

    • It can cause nerve damage and facial dropping in the child.
    • Pelvic organ prolapse.
